SPECIAL EDUCATION EXCELLENCE

S.E.E. the potential

At Special Education Excellence, our mission is to serve students with disabilities as they learn the tools to become their own best advocate. Through our coaching approach, and personal growth model, we support individuals so they can learn about areas of strengths and barriers preventing them from reaching their personal goals. We also offer coaching or consultation to parents of children with disabilities who are looking to further their knowledge of special education laws, mandates and advocacy as it relates to the school setting.

Let us help you SEE the potential to create a future you desire.

About Dr. Piombino

Dr. P, which is what most call her, has dedicated her career to supporting individuals with disabilities, particularly those with invisible challenges, drawing from her personal experience of being diagnosed with ADHD later in life. Growing up with an undiagnosed learning difference, Dr. P understands firsthand the impact that early support and recognition of strengths can have on an individual's success. This insight fuels her lifelong mission to help others identify their strengths and address areas of difficulty in ways that foster self-empowerment and academic achievement.

Dr. P earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy, followed by a Master of Education in Learning Disabilities from Montclair State University. She further honed her expertise with obtaining a supervisor certification from Rutgers University and completed the NJ EXCEL program, which provided her with the equivalent of a second master's degree. In 2021, she earned a terminal degree in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University.

With a wide-ranging career in education, Dr. P has served as a special education teacher, Child Study Team member, Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant, Supervisor, and District-Level Administrator. She holds multiple certifications in special education and leadership and is a certified dyslexia practitioner through the Wilson Language Program. Dr. P’s leadership and innovation in the field have been recognized through her award-winning ICAN IEP procedure, which empowers students to actively participate in their IEP meetings—a practice that has garnered attention from LRP and the NJ School Boards Association.

Dr. P is passionate about mentoring the next generation of educational leaders. She has taught at the university level, published research in The Journal of Special Education Leadership and ProQuest, and collaborated with NJ Leaders to Leaders to coach future administrators. As a former Board of Trustee member for Daytop Academy and a five-year member of her local Board of Education, Dr. P is deeply committed to advancing education policy and practice.

Her mission remains clear: to help individuals with disabilities not only recognize their potential but also leverage their strengths to navigate and overcome challenges. Through her work, Dr. P strives to ensure that all learners have the support and tools they need to succeed, both academically and personally.
